Argument of Breast

Arugmentation of breast is the surgical insertion of saline or silicone implants to increase or create breast volume. The procedure can be strictly cosmetic. In other cases, augmentation is reconstructive to treat patients post-mastectomy, with genetic or traumatic breast absence including amastia or Poland’s syndrome or with congenital glandular asymmetry.

The implant is inserted under the pectoralis muscle through a small incision above the inframammary crease (the natural fold under the breast). Patients may choose from saline or gel implants. The right type and size for each patient will be determined at consultation with Dr. Deutsch. Patients who desire gel implants will be encouraged to participate in an ongoing study.

It takes approximately 45 minutes and the patients are discharged home the day of surgery. They are prescribed a muscle relaxant and narcotic and given a detailed instruction sheet. Patients are instructed to wear the post-operative bra as much as possible the first week following surgery for comfort and compression. Recovery is six weeks avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous activity.

Patients who have undergone augmentation can be routinely screened for breast cancer using mammography. So its important for you to check up your breast timely so you know you have problem in your breast or not.
